Patterns

When I was about 31 years old I wrote two essays to myself.  This was before the days of blogs obviously so I had nobody to share it with,  nor did I care to at the time because they were clarifying messages for my life's purpose.  One of those essays was my version of the "Law of the Harvest".  The other was not really titled but more of a long journal entry that I simply called the P's of life.  Preparation which includes planning, purpose, perspective, patterns, pursuit. I was engaged in my regular occupation and also associating with people pursuing personal development in the typical fashion of listening to speakers with an ambitious plan.  They wanted to sell a dream or sell us on our own dreams or get us to dream.   While dreams are good they are as they say only wishes until you write them down, or maybe a goal is only a wish until you make a plan to accomplish it. I somehow came to the conclusion that I could make out of life what I wa...

Freedom Today and the Constitution

The The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States are what? Words on a paper shared with belief that they were good for a nation. Carefully chosen words. Words that express principles of a divine nature. A group of our forebears agreed that it would be the basis of our government. It was no small achievement. It would tell elected government what they could or couldn't do. Following it is a matter of integrity. It is a commitment to the principles in the Declaration of Independ ence and allowing individuals to be free. We have layers or branches in the government so that when one does not follow it the others might challenge them. If they don't challenge behavior that is contrary to the ideals and provisions it contains then it behooves "we the people to act", to come together and vote. These are the bullets of freedom today.  While corruption has been setting in almost from the beginning, the constitution has proven to be better th...

10 Skills For Success at Almost Anything

10 Skills You Need to  Succeed  at Almost Anything By Dustin Wax  Post from Life Hack What does it take to  succeed ? A positive attitude? Well, sure, but that’s hardly enough. The Law of Attraction? The Secret? These ideas might act as spurs to action, but without the action itself, they don’t do much. Success, however it’s defined, takes action, and taking good and appropriate action takes skills. Some of these skills (not enough, though) are taught in school (not well enough, either), others are taught on the job, and still others we learn from general life experience. Below is a list of general skills that will help anyone get ahead in practically any field, from running a company to running a gardening club. Of course, there are skills specific to each field as well – but my concern here is with the skills that translate across disciplines, the ones that can be learned by anyone in any position. 1. Public Speaking The ability to speak c...

Life Cycles-The Breakaway

Life Cycles-The Breakaway It is fun to ride a bike, but anyone who has watched a cycling event on TV knows that it can drag for a long time.  It consists of many helicopter shots of beautiful scenery, a big pack of cyclists and some English guy talking nonstop as he tries to make it exciting.    There is something though that makes a bicycle race exciting, it is called the breakaway.  These are the risk takers, the guys that feel extra perky on any given day.  These are the guys that say I can ride faster and longer than all the other top professional cyclists in the world for 4 to 5 hours usually over a course of at least 100 miles.  They may lead the race until only a few miles are left and yet most of the time these guys get sucked back into the pack and no one knows what happens to them.    On occasion however their risk pays off and they win the race.   I compare these guys to the entrepreneurs in life. ...

The Law of the Harvest-Freedom and Behavior

The Law of the Harvest-Freedom and Behavior When we make a good choice over a bad one or a better one over a good one, we elevate our character to a higher level.    Think of what the "Law of the Harvest" means if we think of our choices as seeds of our present and future.    We have been placed in an environment (this earth) where we are agents of behavior. We are each a seed of potential eternal increase.  God has planted us in the earth.   The law says that a seed will produce indefinitely as its seeds are harvested and replanted.  A seed does not produce another single seed when planted.  It produces a plant which in turn produces a field of plants itself.   We are constantly choosing between opposing behaviors which are successively better or worse. This freedom or agency as we might call it is comparable to the concept of an agent in sports.  A free agent is a player that does not have a contract.  H...

The Eternal Nature of Freedom

By Charles Brown As we consider the principle of freedom, how far back should we go? When did it begin to exist as a precept or principle? A study of world history will give various examples of the idea.   Would it not have root in eternity?  Is it grounded in the philosophies of man or eternal truth? For freedom to exist, at least three things must be present. Choices on a continuum of opposition (Good and Evil), Creation, a place for individuals to act, and Individuals capable of experiencing it. If none of these exist then freedom cannot. The fact is they all exist naturally. The real questions is whether or not they come from God. Does God exist as a natural being in eternity or is he something men have invented to fill gaps in the theories of natural creation or biblical interpretations? Read here for an explanation . A study of world history will tell you about the many societies that had wonderful moments of freedom and then lost it. The founders knew ...
